Information for (HC) Heavy Vehicle Licencing

Successful applicants can receive their licence upgrade, same day (Conditions apply)

Before you apply for an upgrade to a heavy vehicle combination licence (HC), you need to complete the appropriate knowledge test at a service centre: see below links to assist you.

• You can pay for a heavy vehicle competency based assessment (HVCBA) from Need A Truck Licence.
• After completing the HVCBA for passing the driving test, you will receive a Certificate of Competency (CoC) which you take to an RMS service centre for the licence upgrade.

Eligibility

• For a heavy vehicle HC licence, you need to have held a class MR or HR licence or equivalent for one year or more.
• You need to pass the eyesight test, with contact lenses or glasses if necessary
• Receive an endorsed HVCBA log book from an RMS Service Centre.

PLEASE NOTE: Need A Truck Licence (NATL) are nationally accredited by RMS as a National Heavy Vehicle Training Organisation with the creator of NATL having over 40 years of real on-road experience.

 Criteria 3 – Start, move off, shut down and secure
Criteria 4 – Manage Steering
Criteria 5 – Manages Gears
Criteria 6 – Manages Brakes
Criteria 7 – Manages Accelerator
Criteria 8 – Create & Maintain Crash Avoidance Space
Criteria 9 – Protect Crash Avoidance Space
Criteria 10 – Road Rules and Directions
Criteria 11 – Reversing
Criteria 12 – Hill Stop/Start

 Criteria 13 – Load Securing
Criteria 14 – Coupling/Uncoupling (HC and MC only)

 Criteria 15 - Bus Stop Procedure

All the above information is found in the material supplied to you by the RMS.     

The training course must be completed in which you will be trained and assessed on the applicable criteria listed above. When you have met the RMS standard you will be “Signed off by your Trainer”. 

Once the training course is completed you will then be required to complete the Final Competency Assessment (FCA), which is the final drive Test that will be Video Recorded as an RMS Requirement.

After the FCA has been successfully completed, you will be issued with a Certificate of Competency (CoC) which you then take to a RMS service centre to be issued your HR licence.

** You may have also to pay a little at the RMS service centre as a adjustment to the higher Licence Class  **

About costs, HC licence starts from ONLY $1,100.00 it depends on your experience.
